HENDERSON, KY, December 16, 2020– The City of Henderson’s Finance Department has received two new awards for excellence from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).
It was the 21st time that the Finance Department has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).
It was the third time to receive the Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award (PAFR) for the annual report that condenses the CAFR for ease of use by citizens.
“All finance department staff members who participate in this financial reporting procedure are to be commended for bringing this recognition to the city and for their contributions to this high standard of excellence,” said Henderson City Manager Buzzy Newman.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
Both documents were judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR and PAFR.
With these two awards plus the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the City of Henderson received all three awards in the GFOA program and earned the Triple Crown Medallion, one of only three in the state of Kentucky.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, Illinois, and Washington, D.C.
