HENDERSON, Ky. -- As announced last week, Henderson Water Utility (HWU) and its contractor, Deig Bros. Lumber & Construction Co., are starting a major sewer infrastructure project in the north end of Henderson.
For the next 30 days, this will require closure of portions of Sunset Lane and Barker Road, near their intersection, just west of US 41 North.
Sunset Lane will be closed to through traffic southbound at Watson Lane. Barker Road will be close to through westbound traffic at North Elm Street. These streets will be barricaded, with “Local Traffic Only” signage. The signed detour will include North Elm St, north of Barker Road, and Watson Lane, from North Elm to Sunset Lane.
Local traffic within the closed portions of Sunset and Barker will be maintained, as will access for emergency vehicles, deliveries, sanitation and recycling pickup, and driveway entry, to the maximum extent possible, while maintaining safety for workers and the traveling public. The closure is anticipated to start early on Wednesday, July 29, and last through Friday, Aug. 28.The first phase of this project will involve directional drilling of a 16” pipe along Myrene Drive, Sunset Lane, Barker Road and Jamestown Drive. This type of construction minimizes impacts to streets, driveways and yards, and is faster and less expensive than traditional cut-and-cover construction. Contractor personnel from Deig Brothers will contact affected homeowners and be available on-site to answer questions, and every effort will be made to accommodate resident’s concerns. Trenches will be filled with rock at the end of each day to facilitate traffic, and flaggers will be present when one-way traffic is necessary.
