HENDERSON, KY, May 20, 2020– A plan to install at least one boat dock at the downtown riverfront and another at Hays Boat Ramp in time for the Memorial Day Weekend has been scrapped by the rising Ohio River.
Public Works officials had been cautiously optimistic that the boat docks could be installed, but recent rains have caused the Ohio River to elevate sharply. It is now forecast to rise to 38 feet locally.
The river level needs to be no higher than 22 feet to accommodate the boat docks.
They will be installed for the summer boating season as soon as the river recedes to a manageable level.
