HENDERSON, Ky. --  The Henderson Area Arts Alliance was recently awarded a $3,000 Arts Meets Activism grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women.

The grant is to support a workshop at the Women’s Addiction Recovery Manor (WARM) through which women in recovery will be partnered with dancers from Dance Kaleidoscope to create dances based on their life stories.

The workshops will take place the week of March 24leading up to the dance troupe’s main-stage performance of Music Men on Saturday, March 28  at the Preston Arts Center.

In addition, the Arts Alliance will be the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Kentucky Department of Tourism through a local tourism grant program. The funding will be used to further market the Alliance’s programs to broader audiences, bringing in thousands of tourists to Henderson each year.

“We are very pleased to be the recipient of two new funding opportunities for the Arts Alliance. With our outreach programs, such as those at the WARM Center, our organization aspires to advance social justice for women and other underprivileged groups through the arts. The Alliance is humbled to be one of only two grantees in Western Kentucky from the Kentucky Foundation for Women. We are also proud of the economic impact our organization has on the local tourism industry and for that to be recognized by the state and local tourism agencies,” said executive director Alex Caudill.

The grants will fulfill the arts organization’s mission to provide quality arts experiences for all.

The Kentucky Foundation for Women is a private foundation formed in 1985 by Louisville writer Sallie Bingham. Its mission is to promote positive social change by supporting varied feminist expression in the arts.
