Everyone knows teachers influence students in large and small ways. In 1887, Henderson teacher Mary Towles Sasseen’s class at Center Street School presented a program featuring songs, poems, and essays about motherhood. This program became the first observance Mother’s Day. Many other teachers have changed our lives in smaller, more individual moments.
In conjunction with the Henderson County Schools’ 2019 sesquicentennial celebration, the Depot Community Room is gathering stories and memories of your favorite teachers to be included in a display at the Depot Community Room.
Memories of your favorite teachers should include the teacher’s name, the name of the school where they taught, the grade you were in, and the year of your memory. It may include stories about events, or special moments when they made a difference in your life. Pictures are welcome as well.
Stories may be submitted by U.S. mail (101 N. Water Street, Henderson, KY 42420), by email (firstname.lastname@example.org), or by bringing it to the Depot Community Room Monday-Friday, 10 am – 4 pm, and Saturday 10 am – 2 pm.
Submissions will be accepted through April 30.
