2019 marks 150 years of public education in Henderson

The community is invited to a Sesquicentennial Kick-Off Celebration on Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Henderson County Public Library Rotunda area. The student-designed logo for the Sesquicentennial will be unveiled, and a City/County proclamation will be presented to mark the occasion.

The community will also be invited to bring in Henderson County public education artifacts, photos, and memorabilia beginning from 1869, the initial year an act to organize and establish a system of public schools in Henderson was passed.

Please bring items to the library during normal business hours for historical archival starting Jan. 16 and continuing through March 31.

“Public education is the cornerstone of our community, and we want the celebration of 150 years of Henderson County Schools in 2019 not only to involve our schools but also the entire Henderson community," said Marganna Stanley, superintendent of Henderson County Schools. "We are appreciative of the Henderson County Public Library, the Community Depot room, and our history committee for their support and commitment to preserving the history of our public education system for future generations.”
