About the City Manager
The city manager is appointed by the Board of Commissioners and serves as the chief administrator, providing direction and general management of the operation of each department within the city.

Duties & Powers

• Oversees the day-to-day functions of the city
• Carries out the duties and policies set by the Board of Commissioners
• Supervises, plans, organizes, coordinates, prioritizes, assigns, and evaluates the work of 12 city offices and departments and their personnel
• Directs the preparation of, and oversees the execution of, the city’s annual budget
• Develops and directs the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards for all city offices and departments
• Exercises executive powers and duties delegated by ordinance and statute, including enforcement of the City Manager Plan, city ordinances, and all applicable statutes

About the Assistant City Manager
The assistant city manager is appointed by the Board of Commissioners and serves under the direction of the city manager to provide substantive and highly complex staff assistance in the development, implementation, and administration of city programs and operations.

Duties & Powers

• Represents the city and works closely with intergovernmental, interdepartmental, community, and professional groups, attending meetings as required
• Supervises three city divisions and their personnel
• Works closely with the city manager, Board of Commissioners, and other city departments developing programs and implementing projects to solve problems
• Applies for state and federal funding assistance
• Serves as chairman of the Flood Mitigation Board
• Serves as acting city manager when assigned
