HENDERSON, Ky. – If you still have leaves that haven’t been collected, rest assured that they will be picked up.
City of Henderson Public Works Department has faced a perfect storm this season with the loss of a sweeper truck to a fire, larger quantities of yard debris being left for pick up by the city and the fact that most of the leaves fell at the same time.
Public Works Director Brian Williams said that in November city crews picked up 50 tons more leaves than in the same month last year.
“Now we’re in December, and I expect we’ll go through mid-January,” Williams said, noting that his department has had a lot of calls about leaves. “It’s been one of those years.”
You may continue to place your leaves near the street or edge of your lawn so the vacuum truck can reach them. Please don’t rake them into the street where they can clog up storm drains.
You can also bag your leaves to keep them contained until the vacuum truck gets to your street. City crews will collect up to 10 bags during their regular trash collection time.
The Public Works Department will collect all of your bagged leaves and will continue to vacuum until the end of the leaf season. Two crews are out working on leaves a daily basis to offer this service to city residents.
Call the Public Works Department at (270) 831-1234 with your questions. If you’ve called in to report that your leaves are raked and ready, you’re already on the list.
“We’ll get to your loose leaves and bagged leaves as quickly as possible,” Williams said. “We appreciate your patience.”
