Sandy Lee Songfest awards $20,000 in grants to four local organizations

HENDERSON, Ky. -- The annual Sandy Lee Watkins Songwriters Festival has announced grant awards totaling $20,000 to four local organization from proceeds of the 2017 festival that took place in downtown Henderson in late July.

The recipient groups this year are:

  • Brain Injury Adventure Camp: $7,000
  • FFA Alumni: $5,000
  • Audubon Kids Zone: $5,000
  • Henderson County Diabetes Coalition: $3,000

The  festival hosted more than 20 award-winning songwriters at this year's event. Storytelling and music are their passion, but the songwriters return to Henderson year in and year out because "they truly love raising money to support local causes," says a festival news release.

The grant recipients were awarded on Aug. 24 in a private ceremony held at Rookies Restaurant in Downtown Henderson.

The recipients will use their funds to support local programs in our community.

Meanwhile,  the 2018 Sandy Lee Songfest Grant Application will be available online  at on Friday, Sept. 15, and deadline for submissions will be Nov. 15.
